THE TWO BEST LENSES FOR FOOD PHOTOGRAPHY

May 29, 2018 by Nick Bumgardner in Food Photography

First picking up a DSLR for food photography is quite daunting. After picking a DSLR the next major decision is picking a lens? The lens is the single most important part of your camera system. Lenses are forever, and bodies are temporary purchases. Investing in a good lens system, to start with will make your photographic journey easier. When it comes to food photography there are three main lenses that commercial food photographers use. They are a 50mm lens, a 85mm or 90mm tilt and shift and a 100mm or 105mm macro lens. My recommendation is that every food photographer needs at least a 50mm lens and a 100mm macro lens.

SOUTHERN GRIST FOR NASHVILLE LIFESTYLES

May 23, 2018 by Nick Bumgardner in Food Photography

I photographed Southern Grist Brewing for Nashville Lifestyles for the April 2018 issue. Southern Grist just opened their new Tap Room in The Nations. The creative brief for this one was to photograph the unique beers from the brewery, and to capture some images of the interior of the tap room. For me I picture Southern Grist as a beer lovers brewery. So the photos had to really tell a great story about how good the beer is.

PROPPER SAKE FOR NASHVILLE LIFESTYLES

May 17, 2018 by Nick Bumgardner in Food Photography

Last November I photographed Proper Sake for Nashville Lifestyles. Proper Sake is Tennessee's first Sake brewery. Proper Sake is owned by Byron Stithem. It has a great location in the Pie Town neighborhood of Nashville. He is located just feet away from City Winery and Tennessee Brew Works. The creative brief for this assignment was pretty simple. The magazine needed photos of the interior of the restaurant, the sake, and if time permitted some shots for Byron. We were able to capture all of the options that the magazine wanted with time to spare. Keep reading to see more beverage photography of this awesome sake and to find out more about this shoot!
