Vibrant Baseball Product Photography: Capturing the Energy Behind Every Swing

October 09, 2024 by Nick Bumgardner in Product Photography

When it comes to sports equipment, especially something as iconic as baseball gear, product photography is more than just showcasing the item—it’s about bringing the energy, passion, and vibrancy of the game to life. Over the past few years, I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with Absolutely Ridiculous, a company that epitomizes creativity and fun in the sports equipment industry.

Their request was simple at first—crisp, clean e-commerce images of their colorful, playful products on white backgrounds. But as with any great collaboration, there was room to evolve. That’s where the magic happened.

Hitting a Home Run with E-Commerce Photography

Four years ago, when Absolutely Ridiculous first approached me, their main goal was to stand out in a crowded e-commerce space. They needed clean, high-resolution images of their unique baseball gloves—products like their famous ice cream-themed glove, which is as fun and creative as it sounds. By using bright white backgrounds, we ensured their products were front and center, free from distractions.

This approach is essential for any e-commerce business. Crisp, high-quality imagery not only increases trust but also boosts conversion rates. Shoppers want to see the details—every stitch, color pop, and design element—so they can imagine themselves owning the product. That’s exactly what we delivered. To see those images step back in time to this blog post featuring some of our prior work for the company.

Elevating Sports Equipment Photography for Advertising Campaigns

Fast forward to today, and I recently revisited those original images. While they served their purpose for e-commerce, I knew there was untapped potential, especially when thinking about how these images could perform in advertising campaigns.

For creatives at advertising agencies, striking, attention-grabbing visuals are key to building memorable campaigns. By placing these vibrant baseball gloves on equally energetic backgrounds—think bold, contrasting colors that make the gloves seem as if they’re leaping off the screen—the photos transformed from functional e-commerce shots into scroll-stopping imagery perfect for ads.

These aren’t just photos of gloves anymore; they’re statements. They capture the spirit of the game, the excitement of play, and the uniqueness of the brand—all in one image. And that’s exactly what creatives need to inspire their audiences.

Bringing Products to Life for E-Commerce Businesses

For e-commerce businesses, especially in the sports industry, the challenge is twofold: you need to make your products look great while also creating a connection with your audience. Sports equipment isn’t just about function—it’s about lifestyle. A baseball glove represents hours of practice, the thrill of a catch, or a child’s first game.

That’s why I breathed new life into the images for Absolutely Ridiculous. By moving beyond the plain white background and incorporating dynamic colors and complementary themes, we were able to showcase their baseball gloves in a way that tells a story. And in e-commerce, storytelling is essential to standing out and connecting with your customers.

The Power of Scroll-Stopping Imagery

In today’s fast-paced, digital shopping landscape, you only have a few seconds to capture attention. Whether your products are listed on an e-commerce site, promoted in an ad, or featured in a social media campaign, scroll-stopping imagery is critical to making a lasting impression.

For Absolutely Ridiculous, the transformation of their product photos was a game-changer. The gloves now shine against vibrant backgrounds, grabbing the attention of not just potential buyers but also creative directors, advertisers, and social media influencers. This is the kind of photography that gets people talking and sharing, boosting brand awareness in a natural, organic way.

Conclusion: Winning with Vibrant Product Photography

Whether you’re in sports equipment, an advertising agency, or running an e-commerce business, the right photography can make all the difference. It’s not just about capturing the product—it’s about capturing its essence, its energy, and its story.

Toilet Paper Product Photography

There is a first time for photographing everything. It took me 12 years in business before I was asked to photograph toilet paper. In this case it is actually Bampoo a toilet paper made out of Bamboo. They have great design and packaging and a sustainable product. Take a look below to see the rest of the assets that we created for Bampoo.

Photographing toilet paper was surprisingly fun. This is one of those clients that I really hope that they come back to do more photography. I would love to do some more lifestyle and hero oriented photos. I think we could create some really compelling content working with toilet paper.

Crisp E-Commerce Photography for Vitamin Brand Verve RX

January 15, 2020 by Nick Bumgardner in Product Photography

Verve Vitamins

I’m all about doing work for health and lifestyle brands. I love to work for people who are helping others.

The Client Brief

The brand agency for Verve RX reached out to me at the end of 2018 with a request for fresh e-commerce images. The client had a short list of needs. The client needed 12 images and had some pretty specific design comps that the images needed to fit into. They wanted super clean images with nice crisp edges. We were able to execute on this job remotely without the client on set. We had a quick turn around time on these images of just a few days.

Wrapping It Up

We were able to execute on the client request and create some really crisp and clear images of the product packaging and a few accessories. We delivered all 12 product images in a tight deadline for the client to get up on their website.

Urban Sprout Micro Green Food and Product Photography

January 14, 2020 by Nick Bumgardner in Advertising Photography

Urban Sprout

Like most shoots this one begins with a story. About two years ago my family and I went to the farmers market in downtown Murfreesboro, TN. I decided to take my DJI Osmo along with me this particular Saturday. I thought I could get some cool video footage to put together for my instagram story my intention was to do a story around purchasing a tomahawk ribeye from one of my friends who owns a local farm and then tossing it on the smoker. While at the farmers market we ran into one of the newer vendors and struck up a conversation. This vendor happened to be selling micro greens. For those not in the know micro greens are essentially baby greens they have very intense flavors that are really amazing. One thing led to another and a few months later we were in the studio shooting.

The Request

One of my most common requests is to photograph content that bridges the gap between food photography and product photography. In this case, a local Micro Green grower reached out to me to create a catalog of images that they could use on social media and on their website. The company needed to show off their products both as a living and growing plant in a lifestyle setting and also more traditional photos of each individual micro green packaged for sale. Both types of imagery are vital to this client.

Studio Session-041.jpg

The Work

For this particular client, I have broken your work down into three sections. Simple packaged product imagery in a lifestyle environment, images of the greens in a lifestyle environment and finally true lifestyle images. For this client, we decided to use natural light coming through the studios south-facing windows. The south light would give us consistent light throughout the day. We opted for natural light because the client wanted to give a stronger sense of nature in the photos.

Packaged Shots

For the packaged shots the client received a gallery of images of each micro green on a solid white backdrop, own a white planked surface and also Ono a white planted surface with some minimal props.

The next part of this shoot was to capture each of these micro greens in a bit more organic of a setting. Take a look!

Lifestyle Hero Shots

For this next batch of images we wanted to get to know the micro greens a bit better. These shots are closer in showing more detail and texture and shot from table height for the most part.

Wrapping It Up

Working with the micro greens was a really fun project. I got to try several varieties that I had never had before and even took home a tray of the popcorn greens and the reddish greens. We were able to spend a full day in the studio and build a great content library for the client to use..
