Blade Serpent E-commerce and Lifestyle Photography

April 03, 2020 by Nick Bumgardner in Advertising Photography, Product Video, Product Photography

Sometimes you get a phone call about a potential shoot and just can’t hold in your excitement. This was one of those shoots. Blade Serpent a manufacturer of ban saw blades reached out to me with a project to photograph about 36 images of their ban saw blades for an e-commerce website and then an additional small catalog of images of the blades in use. I always have fun doing work in industrial spaces. Everything has a natural grit to it that I find pretty compelling. Enough talk lets look at some photos!

Man Beast Beard Product Photography

February 27, 2020 by Nick Bumgardner in Product Photography

I have always wanted to be able to grow a beard, but I was not blessed with the genes that would allow me to grow a good beard. I recently had a mens grooming company, Man Beast Beard reach out. Man Beast Beard has a full line of Beard Oils and Balms. These are ultra premium mens grooming products. They had a need for simple product images on white and black backgrounds. They wanted there products to look clean, and high end. These photos will live on the Man Beast Beard website and social media pages. The company has some fantastic packaging and branding so this became a really fun job. We even threw in some additional hero styled images for good measure.

Check out the catalog of images that we built below!

Images on Black

We started the shoot with images on a black background. The black background really gives the packaging a rich appearance.

I really love the box design. When you put two boxes next to each other they create a full image.

Images on White

For e-commerce, it is hard to beat a good crisp image on a white background. It ensures that your product stands off the page. Having crisp lighting really does make the images stand out.

Light and Airy Lifestyle Images

Right now the light and airy look is really popular for product photography. So we used two light surfaces to create a light and airy bathroom feel for this next set of images.

Dark and Moody Lifestyle Imagery

Since we are working with a mens grooming product I thought that a darker and moodier look would work well too. Check it out!

Wrap It Up!

That is how you create an image library! Photos on white, black and on lifestyle backgrounds. These are photos that can be run as Facebook and Instagram ads, can be used on websites, and as web headers. I had a blast createing these images for the client.

Heavy Doody Product Photography

January 15, 2020 by Nick Bumgardner in Product Photography

It’s Dirty Work, But Someone Has To Do It

Recently a new startup company in the pet goods space reached out to me with a project. They had just launched a line of Dog Potty Pads and they were looking for some e-commerce and lifestyle images. The client's request was simple. They needed their packaging and the product shot from a few different angles and put on a white background for e-commerce use. They then wanted two lifestyle photos of the product in use. Keep reading to see the photos!

The Process

The process for this shoot was pretty simple. We started with a client phone call where we discussed client needs and timeline. We then created a shot list over the phone so that we could all be on the same page. A few days later we met up and I received the products from the client. I was able to work independently from the client on this shoot. I communicated throughout the process with the client so that we were all on the same page. Once the products were photographed, I sent a web preview gallery to the client. Once images were approved they were retouched and the final files were delivered. Upon image delivery, I returned the products to the client.

The Images

For this client, we kept the images simple. We wanted to show off the box with as few angles as possible, but yet enough to tell the story of the product. The brand has a really fun and quirky image. The bright colors of the products really help them to stand out in the market place. The boxes were delivered in pretty bad shape. When the boxes arrived at customs coming into the US they ripped the boxes apart. Through the magic of retouching, I was able to rebuild the boxes.

Wrapping It Up

This was a really fun shoot. The product is super fun because of the high energy branding. The bright colors make the images pop off the screen. This company is one of many of a new breed of companies who are creating really compelling branding to sell products that are not traditionally considered brand worthy. I was able to crate a small library of assets for this client to compete in the e-commerce market place.
